When people think of Austin, they picture 6th Street — teeming with people young and old, eager and drunk, seeking live music, barbecue, and street tacos. The art scene, cuisine, tech, hippie culture, and nightlife have consistently drawn people to the capital of Texas.

However, for far too long, Black Austinites have been left out of the picture. Our presence, our labor, our art, our history, and our stories have been critical to the formation and growth of Austin, Texas — and unfortunately, today we see Black Austinites fleeing exorbitant housing and food prices, and racial aggression.

A renaissance is long overdue. It is time to have a media channel built by Black people that focuses on the Black stories of Austin — the politics, social life and nightlife, art, music, and history that continue to shape daily life here, across the U.S., and around the world.

Our primary focus is Black Austin. Our reach extends to Brown, Latino, and working-class communities of every race, gender, and sexuality — because what happens to Black people in this city tends to go on to affect everyone else.
